Mission, Values, & Beliefs

Our Mission

The mission of Sojourn North is to reach people with the gospel, build them up as the church, and send them into the world.

We exist to magnify the transforming power of the gospel in our members, neighbors, and our world, through vibrant local churches.

Sojourn North is a part of Sojourn Collective, a family of interdependent churches covenanting together for maximum gospel impact in the greater Louisville area.

Our Values

Truth

We are committed both to the sufficiency of God’s Word and the power of the gospel to transform lives. These commitments, which we define in our Statement of Beliefs, we uphold by rooting all of our practice in the Bible and adopting a posture of dependence on the truth. At the same time, knowing ourselves, and especially knowing our own spiritual need, we are committed to speaking the truth with transparency and vulnerability.

Beauty

As we pray for God’s Kingdom to come, we work to reflect its beauty in our churches. Our goal is not merely to change our neighborhoods or express diversity, but to do so with such Christ-centeredness, love, and purpose that people long to join in our mission. And because our churches are outposts of a great Kingdom, we aspire to excellence in all we do—especially in displaying the beauty of lives made fully human.

Goodness

Our journey in this life is a journey to be made new. We learn to bear the fruit of the Spirit, to experience the presence of Christ, and to bring God’s transforming power into the world. Specifically, we are called to form vibrant, relational ministries that bring life to our communities. We hope to show people the goodness of God, who equips all believers for his cause and calls the church to empower them for action. We give to the world as God has given to us—generously sharing our best people and resources.

History of Sojourn

Launched in September 2000 as Sojourn Community Church, Sojourn Collective has grown from a small band of believers impassioned to live out our faith in practical and powerful ways into a family of churches that serve the Louisville metro region reaching across the river into Southern Indiana. Convinced that we are healthier in relationship with one another, we are committed to the collaboration and empowerment of the local church for maximum kingdom impact.

In 2020, Sojourn Collective welcomed Christ Church at Goshen into the family as Sojourn Church North.

Our Beliefs

Scripture

God wrote the Bible through men and without error. (2 Peter 1:21)

Trinity

God exists eternally in a Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became a man, lived a sinless life, died on a cross, was buried, rose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven to redeem sinful people. (Hebrews 1:3)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the supernatural agent who applies salvation to sinful people, regenerating, indwelling, sanctifying, and sealing them until the day of Christ’s return. (John 15:26)

Humanity

God creates all people in His image as uniquely male and female. (Genesis 1:27)

Salvation

All people are sinful and in need of salvation. Salvation is a gift of God, given by grace alone, and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)

The Church

The church is both universal and local. (Acts 2:42)

Restoration

Jesus will return to earth to judge all people and to rule and reign with his saints forever. (Matthew 25:46)
